Career Exploration at Holbrook Middle School

Through our Paxton/Patterson Labs, students take part in exciting hands-on learning across 12 modules designed to match their interests and build skills for future success. These courses help students prepare for high school, explore career pathways, and develop real-world skills that last a lifetime.

Students can explore careers in technology, trades, health, and human services through programs such as:

  • Career Exploration: Take part in activities that teach about careers in agriculture, computer science, IT and technology, health science, family and consumer sciences, construction and manufacturing, and transportation and public safety through the Paxton Patterson Learning Lab. Learn about your skills, values, and interests. Explore career paths, training, and education options. Find the best and most affordable way to reach your career goals and prepare while at school.

  • Exploring Careers and Employment: Learn about career planning and how to prepare for future jobs. Explore different careers and the skills needed to be successful at work. Build communication, personal management, and teamwork skills. Gain knowledge for careers in all CTE pathways.

  • Exploring Technology I: Learn to use journals and the Engineering Design Process to solve problems. Build and test models for design challenges. Try out different types of energy sources. Explore skills for careers in computer science, IT, and technology.

  • Exploring Technology II: Design and build systems to meet goals. Take things apart to find and fix problems. Create and test models for engineering challenges. Explore skills for careers in computer science, IT, and technology.

  • Engineering: Technological Systems: Design and build systems to reach goals. Create and test models for engineering challenges. Explore skills for careers in computer science, IT, and technology.

  • Keyboarding and Basic Word Processing: Get better at typing using the touch method. Practice making simple documents with correct formatting. Build strong typing skills to use technology well.

  • Introduction to Office Productivity: Learn about word processing features and how to use them. Find out how to plan and give a good multimedia presentation. Explore how spreadsheet software works and what it can do.
